A case in point, when I underwent cataract surgery several months ago, even though I did not want any sedation and only anesthetic eye drops were going to be used, I still had to undergo presurgical testing for a procedure that was less taxing on my body than a root canal, and I was required to have an anesthesiologist in the OR adding additional expense to the procedure. Clearly, medical consumers must have more options and choices. Something must be done about excessive hospital pricing and in some cases overly aggressive and unnecessary care.
