Save Money and Live A Rich Life
This week has not been a good week for me. First, my daughter bite on the fork when she was eating and broke her tooth. I took her to see the dentist, and he fixed it with filling, that night after she came home with her shiny tooth, she flossed her teeth, and out came the filling. Oh, I have to take her back to her dentist again. Yesterday, I was reconciling my bank account, and saw that 3 of my scheduled online payments were not executed and caused me one late payment fee and finance charges. Today, after I dropped off my daughter at her preschool, I got home, took my baby out of the car, and slammed the locked car door, locked my self out of the car, and I could not get in the house because the keys were locked inside the car. I was holding my sleeping baby on my shoulder calling my husband and calling my insurance company for roadside assistance. It took the service provider an hour to come to rescue me.
Luckily I was able to put my baby back to nap after her interrupted schedule, so that I could write this post. Anyway, back to the subject. I wrote the post, Root out the fear of paying your bills late, in March, mentioned that I set up automatic bill payments. Yesterday I got one of my credit card bill and noticed that I was charged about $10 for interest. I set up to pay recurring payment in the amount of $400 every month to avoid missing payment. I use that card for most of my shopping and I pay off every month. I looked at my record and saw that my manually scheduled payment was not executed. Then I reconciled my bank account and saw two more manually scheduled payments were not executed. One of them was another credit card, I went to my account on their website and saw that I was charged a late fee. That card I have not set up auto bill pay because the promotional interest rate is about to expire and I am about to transfer the balance to another card. I was very concerned about the reliability of my bank’s online banking system, so I called them and was told that it was most likely to be my fault since there was no record of those scheduled payments on my online activity. First, I was so sure to be their fault. After talking to them, it seemed to be my fault, since I didn’t write down or print out the confirmation code, I don’t have any prove to be their fault. Well, I’m sure to be more glad to be my fault, so that I still can trust their online banking system. I guess I just have to copy and paste the confirmation code each time after I make payments online.
It seems I keep having problems with paying my bills. Is it just me or what? Have you somehow missed your payments unknowingly?
These things are just annoying, I always get upset. Of course, they are not really a big deal, it only takes one phone call to remove the late fee and restore the interest rate.
